Background:
SUKA welfare projects aims to alleviate poverty and suffering by helping
families with basic necessities of life. This is achieved by providing sugar during Ramadan,
providing financial aid to cater for food, shelter and medical treatment for the disabled. The
Association also provide support for members and their immediate families when bereaved
and many more. Year on year, SUKA gives a helping hand to families during Ramadan:
2020 Ramadan Sugar Donation Few days before Ramadan start, £600 equivalent to D36,600 (Gambian Dalasis) was sent to our volunteer organisers on the ground. A total of 26 bags of sugar was purchased an increase of 3 extra bags from last year’s campaign. The distribution started on the 1st day of Ramadan. As the Mosques were closed this year, the team decided to ration all but 2 bags and distribute directly to poor and needy families across the length and breath of Sanyang. One bag was given to the Alkalo and Council of Elders and another bag to the head Imam and his committee to inform them that the SUKA annual distribution is ongoing. The SUKA Ramadan collections closed on Sunday the 10th day of Ramadan to give opportunity to anyone who still wants to donate. SUKA thanks sincerely all those who donated for their kind and generous donations. May Allah SWT accept it from all of us.
